I know, I know, I know. I haven't been on this blog for so long. I'm so sorry, y'all. I've just been really busy lately. 'nuff said

Before I start, let me just tell you want revamp is, because I am especially fond of the definition: An act of improving the form, structure, or appearance of something. In my case, our Sewing area!

How it all got started

Now that I am back at it, today I was in organizing mode! (Note: It's pretty rare I am in organizing mode.) And I didn't just want to organize, I wanted to organize, but also rearrange. To create. To decorate. To dazzle! What better place to start then the...uh....Sewing Room? Ok, ok. I admit it. I never had an official sewing room. Nope, I didn't have a room dedicated to sewing. Actually, my sewing experience started on the kitchen table. Literally. Then it grew to a spare desk in my parent's room. Finally, it was moved downstairs into my bedroom. And now? Into our Rumpus Room! Honestly, you can sew on a kitchen table. It works! But, for those who can find a little bit bigger space to devote to your hobby*, it pays to have a dedicated, organized Craft Room! *Important note: your hobby does not have to be sewing! it can be duct tape wallet making, knitting, quilting, scrapbooking, cardmaking....

Our Craft (mostly sewing!) Room

So, we have this corner in our rumpus room that was not being really being used. So, I moved stuff around, pushed our treadmill to another spot, and plopped (ok, it was hauled and heaved!) my desk. Then, I plopped (ok, dragged!) my sewing machine to the desk. Done. Then, I added a shelf, organized it with all my sewing stuff (yes, it took awhile), and added another desk. Why? Well, my sisters are also budding sewers. So, even though they don't too a ton of sewing yet, I know they probably will be (and, no, I am not a fortune cookie!!) doing alot more sewing soon. Long story short, I added another desk, chair, and put our other machine on top. Now, though our room isn't huge (and it really isn't a room, it's a corner of our rumpus room) it looks so much nicer! Here are some things you'll want to keep in mind if you are planning to revamp your sewing room:

  • Ask your parent's permission if you want to keep your sewing area in someplace other then your bedroom!
  • Even if you have only a small area, be creative! There are endless options! You could have your craft area in your closet, in the spare bedroom, in your attic (speaking of attics, did I ever tell you how much I would love an attic?!), crawlspace, storage area, laundry room, etc...  Find a place! It's possible! I thought I would never find a good place to keep all of my supplies until I got creative. I thought about the (limited) space I had, then worked with it. So get creative.
  • Keep in mind it will likely take more then a day to totally reorganize your stuff. You might want to do this on a Saturday, so you have the whole day to get things back in order.

I hope this inspires you to revamp your craft area, whatever your hobby might be!

Hi Natalie, this is really cool! I love to reorganize and be organized. I wanted to tell you how I organized my duct tape for my business. I went to canadian tire and bought two curtain rods that you can take off the hooks. Then I put them on the wall and hung all my duct tape on the rod. It is really nice because I can see all of the duct tape and when I need one I just take the rod off the hooks and get the duct tape. I have my own duct tape business! Here is my website:
