I wanted to share some “Travel Tips”, as summertime is always a busy travel time, and it’s good to have a few tips.  Today I'll show you the top 10 things I pack when I travel.  {Needless to say....there are alot of other things I bring, but these are just a few "essentials", if you will, that seem to always or very often end up in my bag regardless of the trip.}

The Top 10 Items I Pack When I Travel

Note before we begin: to be totally honest, what I pack completely depends on where I am going, how I am getting there, and the duration of the vacation. (Meaning: there are a TON of variables - the weather, the place, the duration, the season, what I'm doing, and on and on.) However, there are a few staples that I almost always pack, regardless of those variables.  Of course I bring alot of other things, but these are just a few of the important ones!  Some of the things that you might call “essentials” can include:

  • 1. A cozy sweatshirt. Even if I’m going to a hot place, a hooded zip-up sweatshirt is an absolute must, especially for the evenings.
  • 2. Snacks. I like to bring easy-to-prepare, nutritious and delicious snacks, Zippies are great for storing snacks like this.  And it can be ever-so-helpful to put folded napkins in a zippie, too.  Maybe I'll do a post about great snack ideas to pack when travelling?
  • 3. Sunscreen and bug repellent. Invariably there will be sun and bugs where I’m going, most of the time at least, so I make sure to pack these handy items.
  • 4. Music. Normally I bring my iPod or we use a CD player to listen to music….but not strictly music.  Sometimes I also listen to sermons, audio books, radio adventures, the radio, and conference sessions.
  • 5. My travel journal. A must-have item.
  • 6. A good book. Whenever I leave on vacation, I make sure to pack at least one or two (sometimes more) great books.  Especially if it’s a long trip, a large novel is in order…and if it’s a short trip, a few non-fiction books can be a nice treat.
  • 7. Camera. After all, what’s a vacation without a camera?
  • 8. Backpack. It can be a challenge to find a good, heavy-duty backpack that is light enough to carry, big enough to store everything, has adequate back strap support, and looks cute, too!  A feat if you ask me!  But if you find a really great backpack, it is a huge help when you are travelling.I store all of my books, snacks, and a sweatshirt in there (and sometimes I pack EVERYTHING in my backpack...)
  • 9. Sunglasses. Check!  (Especially if we're going somewhere sunny.)
  • 10. Bible. I don't leave for a trip without a Bible in tow, and thankfully we usually bring a couple, in case I forget to bring mine.

And then... bon voyage!
