Hey everyone,

With cold and flu season in full swing, it would be silly for me not to share at least one health and wellness DIY.  Todays DIY is based on my own personal experience making lozenges, and also adapted from the site (-Wellness Mama-). 

For this tutorial, you will need the following items:

Water

Honey

Herbs (slippery elm, cinnamon, elderberry, chamomile)

A candy thermometer

Sauce pan

Candy molds (if you have)

Step 1 ~ Boil 2 cups of water and infuse with herbs of choice.  (You can use about 1/4 cup of each herb for a really potent cough drop, but using as little as 1T can also be effective.) 

Step 2 ~ Infuse by pouring boiling water over herbs.  You can put your herbs in a muslin bag to make straining easier.  Steep for 20 minutes and remove bag of herbs.

Step 3 ~ Pour 1 cup of the herb infused water and 1 1/2 cups honey into saucepan and turn on medium-high heat. 

Step 4 ~ Stir the mixture over m/h heat until it reaches 300 degrees.  (Usually takes about 30 minutes and can be tested by plopping a drop of the mixture in to ice water to see if it immediately hardens.  It should harden to the extreme that it breaks if dropped on the counter.  The mixture should also foam/separate.)  REMOVE THE POT QUICKLY FROM THE HEAT when at the right temperature.

Step 5 ~ pour into candy molds.  Let cool (to the touch).  QUICKLY form into lozenges with your hands.  Let cool on parchment paper!  Toss with stevia to keep from getting sticky in humidity.
