Joy From The Inside Out

Joy From The Inside Out

At large gatherings, I notice those who are super serious (and don't get me wrong, being serious and sober is great, but by this I mean almost looking mad).  They look like they'd rather be somewhere else, and can't wait until the sermon is over.  {I wonder what they're thinking?}

As you might expect, The people that stand out most to me at any gathering, conference, church, ceremony...you name it...are those who are joyful.  Now by this I don't mean a huge toothy grin all the way through the 2 hour service.  But by this, I mean people who look genuinely interested, who are happy, who have a peaceful, content look to them.  Not some giddy or cheesy smile, but some beautiful, pure, rare happiness.  The kind of happiness and... cheerfulness... that only comes from God.

We have to get this one right, girls.  The general mood we carry around is really going to tell people who we are, what we're about, what we care about, what we don't....  it is so underestimated, so under-rated - that it is time to take this area back.

Proverbs 15:3 says that "a happy heart makes the face cheerful! but heartache crushes the Spirit".  See, readers, our joy needs to start on the inside.  But then we are told that are faces should also be cheerful!  And that the joy we feel inside just can't help but spill onto the outside!

Ecclesiasties 3:12 echoes, "I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live."

Well... who are you mostly drawn to?  People who look generally "angry", unapprochable, and constantly serious, or people who generally display a peaceful, joyful, cheerful spirit?

Then Proverbs 15:30 says that "a cheerful look brings joy to the heart..."  So we see that sometimes, too, joy starts on the face and spreads contagiously to our souls.  Sometimes by just smiling, I instantly feel happier inside.  Try it sometime, you may be surprised!

When Jesus gives us joy, we need to look that way.  Let's be girls of joy and happiness to those around us, on the inside and the out!
