If you didn't yet see the part one to this series, go there now and read that :)

Okay, so on to part two of my quick little series of posts on how to save money.

  • Use cash when possible.  It is so easy to get caught up in the Credit Card or Debit Card world where you are giving away your money with one easy "swipe".  So use cash as much as you can, and try not to carry your card around with you.
  • Ask for deals.  I'm serious about this - politely and kindly ask for a deal. If a store really sees that you are genuinely interested in that garment or product, they might be willing to lower the price. This is a great tip for secondhand stores - they usually just want to get rid of their merchandise and may be happy to give you a lower price.
  • Don't bring money with you wherever you go.  Otherwise you might be tempted to buy stuff you don't really need, which brings me to the next point...
  • If you really want something, don't buy it right away.  Make a plan to wait 48 hours.  If you still want it after those 48 hours, buy it.  If you haven't been thinking about it much...and you don't really want it, you won't feel like going back.
  • If you want to get amazing sales, avoid lineups, and go at a perfect time to a store, go on Wednesday morning. I know it sounds strange, but I have heard that Wednesday mornings are great times to go to stores.  You'll get friendlier clerks, more help, less lineups, quieter buildings, better parking spots, and great deals . Sound too good to be true?  Try it; you just might be surprised!
  • Finally, keep a long term savings goal in plan.  Start a savings account (if you do not already have one) and begin to save.  A good rule of thumb is to save half of what you make, and with the rest tithe and spend.  Of course you could save more if you want, but if you are just starting out, save 50% of what you make.  If you cut lawns and make $50, save $25, and spend/tithe the other $25.
