I love that word…Action!  Think about your room.  Look around.  Look under the bed, on top of the dresser, and even in the nightstand.  Is it overflowing with things?  Is your floor a “graveyard” for homeless things?  Today we will be focusing on a heart that takes action—specifically when it comes to your room.  Let’s take action!

There once was a girl whose room was an utter disaster zone.  “DO NOT ENTER” banners covered the doorway and clothes had scrambled off their hangers.  The drawers were stuffed and the bed was not made.  If you were to look under the bed you would not see any monsters—for there was no room for them to abide!  This girl was me at one.  Are you like me?  Do you find it a nuisance to take care of your room?  Then join the club.  But this is not the “pity-and-do-nothing-about-it-except-mope” club.  In fact, it’s quite the opposite.  It’s the club that works together to try and overcome the room mess!

Let’s take a look at what Proverbs 31 has to say about cleanliness in our rooms.

“She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.”  (Proverbs 31:27)

“Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.”  (Probers 31:31)

Are you getting the message?  I hope it is clear.  She looks well to the ways of her household…she doesn’t eat the bread of idleness…are you like this Biblical woman?  How is your room?  Is it clean?  Could it use a little pick-me-up?

But How?

  1.    There are several books that I recommend that helped me to take care of my room.  I will list them in hopes that you will read them and get tips, advice and motivation.  These include Organized Simplicity, Fly Lady’s books, and Clutter Rehab.  Check them out!

2.
I am including a list below of things that you need to do to keep your room looking spic and span.  Choose a day (weekly) to tear through this list.  Maybe Wednesday after soccer practice or Thursday after violin lesson?  Perhaps bright and early before you start Homeschool?  This list will take you about 1 hour to go through.  I hang this list in a special place in my room—a place where I will see it and be reminded of my high-calling, my duty.  I remember my accountability toward God through that list.

Weekly “Cleaning My Room” Checklist

1. Wash Bed Sheets and Clothes.

 2. Clear off Dresser/Nightstand/Book Shelf

3. Dust all flat surfaces and knick-knacks.

4. Check closet – are all clothes on hangers?  If not, hang them or place them in dirty basket if dirty.  Check drawers – are all clothes neatly folded?  If not, re-fold them.  Fold clean clothes and put them away.

5. Place books neatly back on book shelf.

6. Pick up everything off the floor and under the bed

7. Sort through any loose papers, magazines, books, etc.

8. Vacuum the floor.
