Honor your Parents
Have you ever thought of all the things your parents have done for you?
Their sacrifice in paying for food and clothing and shelter for you is one of the reasons you should honor them, but the main reason is because the Bible says,
Honor thy Father and thy Mother, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee... Deut. 5:16a
That is why it is a good idea to start what we call '30 days of honor'
Each day for a month, chose a different act of honor to do for your parents, and remember, when the Bible says parents, it is talking about grandparents as well!
some good ideas to start with are these:
-pray for your parents
-do an extra job they didn't ask you to do
-if there is something you know they want you to do, but you have been putting it off, start it as soon as possible!
-write notes to them
-send a care package to your grandparents if they live far away
-thank them for all that they do
-make it easy for them to please you! If they give a gift to you, or show kindness to you, love it!
This is something that our family has been working through, [and there are some things on this list that I need to work at!] and we are beginning to see some of the blessings that come from doing what is right! It's not just a good idea to honor, it is a command! Jesus said,
"If ye keep [to gaurd, to keep before you] my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love." John 15:10
God bless you as you keep his commandments!
