What's in a Name?

I thought of an important (and timely) topic.  Have you ever wondered what's in your name?  Well, if your name is Emily it means to strive or excel or rival.  If you're called Emma then your meaning is "Universal". Are you named Liberty?  Then you mean freedom!  The list goes on and on and on.  As you can imagine, there are so many people in this world (7 billion) that there are lots of names.  However, some names haven't even been invented!  The meaning of your name is important.  Some people may argue it doesn't matter.  But I strongly believe it does.  Though it may not change your personality, it is very important a parent names their child something that has a good and noble meaning.  For example, who would name their kid a very beautiful, excellent, pretty, gentle name such as Elizabeth if they knew it meant "Junk"?  I'm afraid many, many people would.  In our society, anything goes.  'Good' newer names have often emerged from strange and occasionally corrupt meanings.  Of course, Elizabeth does not mean junk, so before you go off and post that on Facebook I think I should tell you that!  It's extremley important we choose good names.  All the names in the Bible had special meanings.  Hannah meant Grace, Abraham meant 'Father of a Multitude'.   That's not to say all new names are bad, but back then a lot of names had more, well...meaning!  So the challenge this week is to go out and find what your name means.  If it means "peace" then try and have more peace with people who bug you.  If it means patience try harder to be patient.  For some of us (including me) our names mean strang things.  Mine is a nice name but it means Born at Christmas.  I'm not born at Christmas, so it doesn't really fit, but my parents named me that because they loved that name.  Although personality and meanings of your name sometimes don't go hand in hand, there's no wrong in trying to live out your name!
